The article reviews the issue of alternative energy sources. Principal attention is given to biofuel production, in particular to bioethanol in Ukraine and in the world. The «know-how» of bioethanol production from lignocellulosic raw materials is presented. In addition, the authors evaluate future prospects of biofuel production and use.
